Project Objectives:
The owners of this small 60s Oconomowoc ranch home were tired of their cramped kitchen and dated look that engulfed the entire property. They originally called on us to add a sunroom to allow for light and more room. They often entertained, and the series of small rooms made it difficult to have more than a few guests at any one time.
Project Challenges
Our designer explained to these clients, that simply adding a remote room off the back of the home wouldn’t solve their problem. The addition of a sunroom would not solve the dated interior problem and add a new box on a tired exterior. As the design progressed interior supporting walls were removed, and a ceiling area was opened to create more space.
Project Summary
Our designer convinced the clients that the home had enough room, it just wasn’t properly utilized. A new design was presented using the existing space and the clients were onboard immediately. A center support wall was removed to create an open concept with the kitchen and living room. The ceiling above the dining area was removed and replaced with a cathedral ceiling and two skylights. An island was placed between the kitchen and living room with a raised snack bar. The half bath off the kitchen was completely gutted and remodeled. A new Kohler pedestal sink replaced the cumbersome vanity. The exterior of the home received a complete facelift. New siding, roof, bay window, garden window and front entranceway, transformed the tired exterior into a showplace. Once completed, a new deck, incorporating a pergola was added off the kitchen to allow guests another venue for conversation. Our clients were thrilled with results! We feel this entry is worthy of consideration because it represents an excellent result on an average 60s ranch and realistic price range. We are proud to submit this project in the 2008 MBA Sales and Marketing Award Competition.
